Own the quality and pace of Goody’s engineering, and ship the best product in our vertical.
Remote (US & Canada only)
Salary range: $150K – $200K + equity
Goody is a gifting platform that makes personal and professional gifting easy. Founded 5 years ago, our product has already become the UI/UX leader in the space and is used by Google, Stripe, Meta, Anthropic, Notion, NBCUniversal, DHL, and others.
Despite being something everyone does, gifting is one of the areas of commerce yet to be disrupted, and our mission is to capture that market opportunity and spread joy and positivity!
Our product is at the center of how we’ll win. We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead and grow our small and talented team of 4 full-stack software engineers at Goody. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to build an insanely great product, influence the growth of our team members, and cultivate an exceptional engineering culture.
Qualities we’re looking for
- Fast execution at a startup pace. You consistently unlock speed for the team and help us ship at a high velocity, through your work in resourcing projects, removing blockers, setting pace expectations, and keeping everyone aligned.
- Product taste. You know what an exceptional user experience looks like and can lead engineers to deliver it.
- Collaborative. Empathetic in understanding the needs, wants, and concerns of both engineers and stakeholders outside engineering to ensure everyone has the information they need and feel aligned and heard.
- Good vibes. You bring a positive energy to the team and exemplify Goody’s ethos of creating delight and having fun. You should create an environment where our engineering team members thrive, do their best work, and have great rapport with their fellow team members, in part from leading by example.
- Balance of craft and execution speed. Good craft is important, but as a startup, you have to balance that with speed. You should have a sense of how to trade this off, and when to take on technical debt and when to pay it off.
You’ll be responsible for
- The quality and pace of engineering execution. You’ll work with our product and engineering teams to resource and ship an ambitious but realistic roadmap that makes Goody more valuable for our senders, recipients, and internal staff.
- Ownership of engineering projects. Day-to-day management of projects to keep them on track or adjust as needed. You’ll be the owner for engineering projects, which entails running project meetings and coordinating with stakeholders.
- Multiplying team impact by coaching engineers to improve their performance, ensure that they’re learning and improving their skills, and are given the right projects, resources, and support to thrive at Goody.
- Facilitating technical decision-making. Coordinating discussions and driving the team toward technical decisions on how to improve our speed of shipping or developer experience, maintain technical debt, and improve our long-term future. Tech stack: Ruby on Rails, React, Next.js, GraphQL, PostgreSQL
Who you are
- 2+ years of experience in engineering management, with excellent results to speak to that you were directly responsible for creating
- A people person that can speak to engineers and non-engineers alike, and works to create a harmonious and efficient working environment through good communication and coordination
- You can code when it matters—diving into the stack for context or critical fixes—but your primary role is enabling others to do their best work
- Growth mindset and an ability to take constructive feedback and thrive in a no-ego culture
- Startup experience is highly valued: candidates with experience in fast-paced startup environments will be given strong consideration
- E-commerce experience is a plus
What we offer
- Fully remote company with opportunities to meet in person, such as regional meetups and our annual company offsite. This position is open to individuals in the US or Canada.
- Base salary range of $150K – $200K USD plus stock options
- We offer benefits and perks to our employees including but not limited to: comprehensive medical plans, including vision and dental, flexible PTO (unlimited within reason), paid family leave, education and wellness stipends, and (of course!) lots of gifts.
